It's summertime but you won't find Grump playing in the sunshine. He prefers staying indoors drawing pictures of his dog, Captain, but Captain has gone missing! Grump has to leave the secluded safety of his house in hopes of finding him, and with those reluctant steps off his porch he discovers something he never expected – friendship.

But all this new fun comes at a cost.

Maybe Grump was better off staying indoors, relying only on himself.

Fortunately for Grump, his new friends Periwinkle and Manny don't give up very easily. With some feistiness and ingenuity the three of them find themselves exploring farther than Grump ever thought he'd go – into the city!
But how much adventure can one Grump take?
Is he ready to trust his new friends?
Will he find the courage to stand up for himself and them?
His true test lies ahead...
